Bathroom Safety

Be aware of slippery surfaces.
Use a bath mat in the tub or shower.
Do not use throw rugs.
Keep all electrical appliances away from the bathtub or sink. Do not use when bathing.
Use a bath seat to transfer in and out of the tub if a transfer bench is not available.

Walking Safety

Do not place extension cords across walkways.
Do not use throw rugs in your home.
Arrange furniture to allow wide access for you to move freely with a walker or cane.
Loose carpeting can cause you to trip or slip.
Use ramps with caution.
Plan exit procedures if there is a fire. Be aware of the extra time it will take you to exit your home if you use a walker or cane.

Wheelchair Safety

Do not place extension cords across walkways.
Do not use throw rugs in your home.
Use ramps with caution.
 Engage the wheel brakes (locks) to prevent the wheelchair from rolling.
