Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County is partnering with the Cosmosphere in sponsoring the fourth annual “Space to Grieve” Kids Kamp scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday June 22 at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson.
Grieving the death of a loved one is never easy and Hospice & Home Care of Reno County and the Cosmosphere are hosting a "Space to Grieve" event for children ages 6-17 years of age in an effort to provide additional coping skills. Participants from previous years have given the event high marks for the benefits they received. One participant commented how Kids Kamp was helpful in dealing with the loss of a grandmother by simply talking about the person. Another camp member said the event assisted in dealing with anger and sadness issues following the loss of a loved one.
Kids Kamp is a bereavement camp filled with a combination of activities for children to process their grief alongside peers who share similar experiences. Included in the day’s activities is a Yoga class which provides tips on how to relax and manage stress and anxiety in a fun way. Cosmosphere instructors provide interactive activities for participants.
New to Kids Kamp this year will be a parent session giving parents and caregivers an opportunity to share their grief journey as they learn new ways to help support their children and deal with their own grief.
Any child who has experienced the death of a family member, friend or other significant person in their life can attend free of charge thanks to funding provided by a grant from the United Way of Reno County, and contributions from several local civic clubs and businesses. Space is limited and the deadline for registering is June 7.
Registrations can be made by calling 620-665-2473. Registrants will be issued a t-shirt as part of their registration.
