The Hutchinson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary funded specialized certification for 7 therapists to provide evidenced based treatment for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions. ​

LSVT has been scientifically researched over the past 20 years with funding from the National Institutes of Health. Research has shown that LSVT Big, provided by PT and OT, improved ratings for motor functioning specifically with faster walking and bigger steps, improved balance, and improved trunk rotation. Through LSVT Big, patients are taught exercises that improve movements in everyday life to allow them to stay active enjoy an improved quality of life.

Research for LSVT Loud, provided by Speech-Language Pathologists, has been documented to show improved vocal loudness, speech intelligibility, facial expression, and confidence. Research states that 89% of people living with Parkinson’s Disease will have problems with their speech. These difficulties often start early in the disease process and can have a huge effect on quality of life. Common speech problems may be a soft voice, mumbled speech, monotone speech, and even a hoarse voice.
