Support and Care in Times of Crisis

Today’s world can present all-too-real threats to mental health. The Behavioral Health Unit at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center is your source for trusted, high-quality care for friends and loved ones facing a mental health crisis. We welcome self-admission, family admissions, and patient referrals. A short-term stay here can be the first step in a continuum of care designed to provide healing and support for each patient.

“Hutchinson Regional Medical Center’s partnership with Horizons Mental Health Center brings a continuum of quality care and convenience to patients and families across the area.” — Vikki Mader, Horizons CEO

Hospital-Based, Individual Care

You can expect a supportive, caring environment in our 15-bed, short-term Behavioral Health unit. Because our services are hospital-based, medical diagnostic tests are easier to obtain, and you will receive access to a wide range of medical professionals for consultation and care. We create an individualized plan of care for each patient, helping you through moments of crisis and working toward mental health care goals together.

Interdisciplinary Team Approach

Hutchinson Regional Medical Center provides Behavioral Health services through our interdisciplinary team of social workers, activity therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Together we assess, diagnose, and work with patients to make informed choices regarding the next right steps for improving their mental health. We work with patients to create realistic, achievable goals through participation in the treatments and activities right for each person. These activities may include:

  • Activity and Recreational Therapy
  • Exercise Groups
  • Family Therapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Individual Psychotherapy
  • Medical Psychiatric Assessment
  • Multifamily Group Therapy
  • Spirituality and Grief Process Groups
  • Nursing Groups to help patients with medication issues, stress management, relapse prevention, and other coping skills.

Horizons Mental Health Center: Providing a Continuum of Care

Just as with many other areas of health, our role as a community hospital is providing critical services, often in times of crisis, while ongoing treatment is often found outside the hospital. The same is true for mental health services. That’s why our partnership and shared leadership with Horizons Mental Health Center is so powerful. Patients benefit from continuous, coordinated care from one facility to the other, making sure each person receives the kind of treatment needed at the appropriate time.
