Horizons Mental Health Center » Community Overview » Personal Safety Awareness Program
This sensitive, comprehensive program teaches children in a positive, non-threatening way the information they need to protect themselves from sexual assault.
The curriculum is presented in four one-hour sessions over a two-week period. The classroom teacher is the primary presenter and resource speakers from law enforcement and social service agencies provide additional classroom information.
The Personal Safety Awareness Program was introduced in Reno County Schools in 1984 and has since been presented to more than 75 public and parochial school districts in Kansas.
Nationally, the program has been purchased by Child Advocacy Centers in Michigan, Missouri, Springfield, Tennessee, Wisconsin and the State Attorney Office in Vermont and Massachusetts.
