Jessica Flax is the Director for the Hutchinson Regional Medical Foundation (HRMF). Flax, a 2005 graduate of Buhler High School, attended Fort Hays State University on a scholarship to play volleyball, and graduated with a degree in Business Management. For the past 13 years, she has been employed with business development and marketing firms, as well as the financial industry. The idea for a foundation was incubated in the early 1970s when final plans were being drawn to establish what is now Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Contributors stepped forward with donations of farmland, oil and gas leases, and cash contributions. As the nation’s economy grew and the stock market rose, the investments increased.
In 1988, the HRMF made a multi-million-dollar contribution to construct the Chalmers Cancer Center on the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center campus. During the past ten years, two very important hospital units were recipient of gifts totaling $10 million, including $6 million for an update to the hospital’s Emergency Department and a $4 million grant for a new state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit. Also, a $2 million grant provided funds to purchase an MRI unit, which ranks as one of the best in the nation.
Flax said she is pleased to join the Hutchinson Regional team. “It is an honor to be leading this initiative for an organization that is a critical cornerstone to this community, and working with remarkable leadership so dedicated to improving the quality of life for both the patients and employees,” Flax said. “I was looking for a career move that would keep me local and active in the community I love, and then to find a role that allows me to help ensure the best healthcare facility and employment is available to residents and surrounding areas for years to come, well, I couldn’t have found a better opportunity.”
Jessica is the mother of two daughters and enjoys spending time with her family, along with running, reading and exploring her passion for writing.
