About Hutchinson Regional Medical Center

Hutchinson Regional Medical Center is a not-for-profit, 190-licensed-bed, acute-care hospital accredited by The Joint Commission, serving more than 65,000 residents in Reno County and surrounding communities. From its early foundations to pioneering advancements like the Chalmers Cancer Center, HRMC has consistently set the standard for exceptional healthcare, leveraging advanced technology and skilled professionals to exceed expectations.

Horizons Mental Health CenterSince 1968, Horizons has provided comprehensive outpatient mental health services across Reno and neighboring counties, fostering wellness through individual and family therapies, case management, and integrated care programs.

Hospice & Home Care of Reno CountyAccredited by The Joint Commission, Hospice and HomeCare deliver compassionate support for patients with life-threatening illnesses and chronic conditions. Over 3,000 residents rely on these services annually, provided in the comfort of their homes or our Hospice House. 

Health-E-QuipVoted the region’s #1 provider of home medical equipment, Health-E-Quip makes transitions from hospital to home seamless with a wide range of accredited services. 

Hutchinson Regional Medical FoundationEstablished in 1979, the Foundation manages private donations to advance patient care, enhance facilities, and support critical healthcare initiatives.

A Legacy 50 Years in the Making

For half a century, Hutchinson Regional Medical Center has grown from a visionary idea into a leading healthcare institution. Explore the milestones that have shaped our journey and continue to define our commitment to exceptional care.

1920s Early Foundations:

  • Grace Hospital and St. Elizabeth’s Mercy Hospital begin serving the community. 

1960s A Growing Need:

  • Increasing healthcare demand highlights the need for unified care. 

1970s The Merger That Changed Everything:

  • Merger of Grace Hospital and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Forms Hutchinson Hospital Corporation in September 1970
  • Construction and Opening of New Hospital

1980s Advancing Services & Technology:

  • Chalmers Cancer Treatment Center opens. 
  • Introduction of mobile nuclear cameras and cardiac monitoring in the ICU. 
  • Installation of biplane radiology equipment and fluoroscopic X-ray. 
  • Implementation of a linear accelerator for advanced treatments. 
  • Construction grant awarded for the Dillon Living Center. 

1990s Strengthened Specialized Care:

  • Ray E. Dillon Living Center opens. 
  • Addition of CT scanners and a dedicated hospice building. 
  • Expansion of the Chalmers Cancer Treatment Center, including new equipment and a linear accelerator. 
  • Launch of the cardiology program and hospital expansion. 
  • Introduction of specialized units, including dialysis and family birthing centers. 
  • Establishment of the Community Health Center and Residential Care Unit for the Terminally Ill.
  • Heart surgery services begin. 

2000s New Services, New Heights:

  • Addition of a hospital MRI unit and opening of the Hospice House. 
  • Relocation of Horizons Mental Health Center and Hospice & HomeCare of Reno County. 
  • Installation of interventional radiology equipment and TomoTherapy Unit. 
  • Emergency helicopter service and sleep diagnostic center launched. 
  • Six new surgical rooms were added at the medical center. 

2010s Redefined Excellence in Healthcare:

  • Hutchinson Hospital renamed to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. 
  • Completion of the first DaVinci robotic procedure. 
  • Establishment of “I CARE” core values. 
  • $6.2 million Emergency Department expansion. 
  • $23 million ICU expansion and $2.7 million MRI suite addition. 
  • Adoption of electronic health records and installation of the Stryker Mako robotic arm. 
  • CAP-certified laboratory status achieved. 
  • Expansion of medical staff and attainment of TJC certification. 
  • Horizons Mental Health Center celebrates its 50th anniversary. 

2020s Innovation and Expansion:

  • A million-dollar renovation enhances safety, comfort, and maternal care.  
  • Enhanced maternal care with private rooms, cesarean support, and lactation consulting. 
  • Launched a nursing simulation lab with Hutchinson Community College. 
  • Announced funding with Senator Moran to expand nursing education and healthcare opportunities. 
  • Opened a Pediatric Unit to provide specialized care for children. 
  • Behavioral Health Unit achieved SIA accreditation to expand local mental health crisis care.
